IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE

IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE – VESSELS OF HONOUR AND DISHONOUR (2 Timothy 2:20)

In my father’s house there are different vessels; vessels of gold, vessels of silver, vessels of clay even plastic vessels. 2 Timothy 2:20 All these vessels have their own responsibility and none of them is lesser than the other. As long as they stay in their place of calling, they are vessels of honour. Just like the scripture says; they are vessels unto honour and their vessels unto dishonour. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29

What does it mean to be a vessel unto honour? Being a vessel unto honour means that you know who God has called you to be and you stay where God has placed you being faithful to what God has called you to be no matter what standing against  you; whether it is any form of offence that wants to pull you out of your place or a strife lurking at your corner. 2 Timothy 2:21 You can’t afford to give any place to the devil because you know that this is your place and this is your calling, so you stick to it. Romans 9:20-21

In my father’s house the vessel of gold is being displayed conspicuously on the center table for people to see and marvel. It can even be displayed for kings and nobles to see; you can’t display a wooden mortar on the center table because it would be out of place. it will be totally out of place because it will become a vessel unto dishonor. 1 Corinthians 7:20 In the same manner, it will be totally wrong for you to use your vessel of gold which is supposed to be displayed on your center table or on your shelf as a mortar for pounding your yam, you will definitely get a wrong result. Infact, this might damage the vessel of gold and makes it become a vessel unto dishonor. 2 Corinthians 4:7

It is not about the look of the vessel that determines whether it is a vessel unto honour but it’s about the purpose of the vessel; what the vessel had been called to do. You are a vessel unto honour if we stay in our place and enjoy what God has called us to be. There we become relevant and serve the masters use. Imagine if all the vessels in my father’s house are all gold, that will be most tragic. Who will pound the yam or pepper or who will cook the food, who will take the take the place of the vessels of wood, clay and plastic/rubber? Acts 9:15

Now, the vessel of silver can also be well displayed on our shelves and on our center tables, it can even be displayed after an important event like World Cup.  Can you imagine someone in the World Cup whose team have just won the match lifting up a very big wooden mortar to celebrate, that will be absolutely odd. Infact no country displays its wooden mortar for pounding on the center table for guests to see especially if it is the market for selling mortars or other wooden vessels.

Vessels are used for different purpose in which they are relevant and can serve the need of maker. Look how delicious the pounded yam you were served is placed on your dining table alongside with a sumptuous soup awaiting your presence. These were produced by the help of the wooden mortar and pestle and your iron pot that you cannot afford to display on the shelf or center table as earlier discussed.

God's choice

You see, everyone has their place when it comes to purpose; a vessel made from plastic or rubber are used in my father’s house to save up enough water, to wash our clothes and for drinking water. It looks on plastic or rubber vessel when you see it doing what he is called to do. It enjoys honour and love from its master. The moment the plastic vessel desires to be the iron pot and wants to cook delicious meals, the moment it steps on the stove it gets destroyed and irrelevant. It becomes a vessel unto dishonour. 2 Peter 1:10

GOD’S CREATION AND HIS WISDOMYou see, everyone has their place when it comes to purpose; a vessel made from plastic or rubber are used in my father’s house to save up enough water, to wash our clothes and for drinking water.

Put away deceit and envy, let’s take a look at what happens when a vessel of plastic/rubber envy the iron who had just cooked jollof rice and he wants to be a vessel that can be used to cook jollof rice,  if you place a rubber vessel on the fire what will happen will lead to her destruction because that is not her place it is when we stay in our place that will become vessels unto honour and anyone who wouldn’t not stay in their place can only have the result of that plastic vessel who wants to take the place of the iron vessel used for cooking. Ephesians 4:31, Hebrews 12:15

In my father’s house, though some vessels of clay are used for cooking, they cannot withstand the pressure put on the vessel of iron. They can’t be placed at the same height in which a vessel of iron is placed because of their frailty.  We all cannot withstand the same pressure therefore God our maker haven known as placed us where we belong so that we can remain relevant and continue to be a vessel unto honour. When a vessel of iron is placed at a height and falls off, it might still maintain its strength and usefulness but a vessel of clay falls from that very height, it will be broken and shattered in pieces. 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5

We stand because we stay in our purpose and calling and we fall because we do not remain in our purpose and calling. If we all stand in our place of assignment that God has called us, we have less of quarreling, fighting, and less of unhealthy rivalry that leads to chaos in our Society.  We will be able to live together in love helping each other because we all need help. We must understand that no man can do everything all by himself, we all need help somebody to help us. 1 Timothy 6:11

During this period of self-isolation that the pandemic had brought to us, many of us have to realize that we need the help or service of someone in our society. Most of us can’t barb for ourselves or make our hair. We need the services of those who can do them. You now know that you just can’t do everything we all need help and because we all need help God has placed men and women in their own place for them to be of help to us and that we also can be of help to them.  Philippians 2:2, Colossians 2:2
