For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The spoken word is God’s authoritative word for which he brings things into being. The spoken word is the power of God at work for which he performs all things, the spoken word is God’s power and authority at work. When God speaks, his words will come to pass and not a jot of God’s word will go without accomplishing that which God have spoken.
This is because God’s word is like a messenger that does not return without accomplishing that which God has spoken. The spoken word is the power of God to cause a change that is why it is by the word all things were created. God and his word are inseparable, this tells us that the word has the same capacity by which God has. This means when God sends his word, it goes with the same strength as if God did it. When God speaks a word, it goes in accordance with the perfect will of God this means that when God’s word is sent it will surely come to pass, it is just like seeing God do it. As long as it comes from the mouth of the Lord, it will come to pass.
18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Matt 5:18-19 NKJV
The spoken word is backed up by the life and power of God, this means that when God speaks his word it comes to pass because whatever he says is true. When God spoke all creation into being, the land, the sea, the animals, the sun, moon and the stars, all this by the word of his power. It is by the word of his power that all these things come to pass and are sustained. Every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord carries the same capacity and strength as God himself. God’s word is inseparable from his person and cannot be separated from who he is. When God’s word is spoken it goes into action.
And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die.
Luke 7:2-3 NKJV
7 Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
Luke 7:7-8 NKJV
The scripture reveals the story of a Centurion man who understands what the authority of the spoken is. He desires that Jesus come heal his servant but he just wants him to speak the word only. He believes that as soon he speaks the word of healing his servant would be healed. The Centurion man understands the power that comes with the spoken word as he was a man who is in authority who gives directives and expects it to be carried out.
Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,
Hebrew 1:3 NKJV
Every word that God speaks is backed up with power, authority and strength with all that it needs to be accomplished just like a child though small but has the capacity to become a full-grown adult. When God sends his word it will surely come to pass, not a jot of God’s word will go without accomplishing that which it has been sent to do, so when God gives you his word when God speaks to you about your situation, it is a done deal already. When God lavishes his love upon you, when God shows you the way, when God speaks strength to you, it is that you might become all he wants you to become when it comes to his plan for your life. He wants you to live his perfect will for you.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 15:7 NKJV
6 The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Ps 12:6 NKJV
God takes his word personal this is because who a person is can be determined by his words, it is therefore important that we speak God’s words into our lives on a daily basis. God is one with his word therefore we can bank on God’s word always.
God’s word is life, the story of that centurion man that asked Jesus to speak the word only instead of coming into his house shows us that God’s word is life giving imagine a sick servant who was about to die coming back to life by the word of the Lord. As soon as Jesus spoke the word of healing and health concerning the dying servant, he came back to life at that very hour. God’s word is like a messenger who ensures all instructions given by the Lord is taken to the letter. God’s word in the hand of a faith filled believer is surely a potent weapon capable of bringing his enemies down.
So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
1 Sam 30:3-5 NKJV
The life of David is a good example of one who believed in the word of God, when God spoke to him, he ran with that word and it came to pass. After the enemies of David took his wives and children and carted away with his properties including that of his men, he was devastated and wept for a while until he sought to hear what God will have him do in the situation because naturally there seem to be no hope and his men were weak and tired. God spoke to him he said, pursue, overtake and you will recover all. Do you hear that, this means all the while that they were crying only God’s word is what they actually need to set the right thermostat for their situation?
7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. 8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
1 Sam 30:7-8 NKJV
In obedience, David and his men actually pursued, they over took and indeed recovered all just as the word of the Lord had said. When God speaks all things stands at attention, infact everything falls into shape including things that were not in existence earlier. God word can call those things that were not possible a possibility and that is it. The moment God speaks everything gathers in obedience.
10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men; ……
1 Sam 30:10 NKJV
When God’s word comes to us there is one thing that we need to do, just obey. When God’s word came to Zachariah the High priest, he doubted. He probably thought to himself about the possibility of such God’s word but God has a better plan. Instead of allowing him obstruct His plan he was muted till the word came to pass. God’s word is true whether it fits natural senses or not. It does not have to. In Mary’s case even though she did not understand how the birth of Jesus will come to pass, she believed whether it goes along with her sense of reasoning or not. What God wants to do when you have received the word is to believe and let his word come to pass.
